Elementary School Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Support Specialist

 

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Elementary School Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Support Specialist to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the social and emotional well-being of elementary school students, fostering an environment conducive to their academic success and personal growth. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, possess excellent communication skills, and be committed to promoting positive mental health and social skills development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Individual and Group Social Emotional Learning sessions/interventions:
    • Provide individual sessions to students who may be experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
    • Facilitate small group sessions focused on topics such as conflict resolution, self-esteem, friendship skills, and emotional regulation.
  • Classroom Support:
    • Collaborate with teachers to integrate social-emotional learning activities into the classroom curriculum.
    • Conduct classroom presentations and workshops on topics related to emotional intelligence, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Crisis Intervention:
    • Respond promptly to crisis situations involving students, including but not limited to, emotional distress, behavioral issues, or traumatic events.
    • Implement appropriate intervention strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
  • Parent and Family Engagement:
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on students' progress and offer strategies for supporting their social and emotional development at home.
    • Organize parent workshops and support groups to address common concerns related to child development and behavior management.
  • Collaborative Teamwork:
    • Work closely with school administrators, teachers, and other support staff to create a cohesive and supportive school environment.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student needs and develop individualized support plans.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay current on best practices in social-emotional learning, counseling techniques, and child development research.
    • Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance professional knowledge and skills.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in psychology, social work, human services, early childhood development, or education.
  • Experience working with elementary school-aged children in a counseling or mental health capacity.
  • Strong understanding of child development, social-emotional learning principles, and counseling theories.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with PBIS, SEL Second Step Curriculum, and Restorative Practices.
